Dallas Joseph, MBA

Active CFO, Baylor School (TN)

Dallas began as Chief Financial and Operating Officer at Baylor School, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 2000 after financial leadership positions at two higher education institutions. As Baylor’s chief financial officer and chief operating officer, Dallas oversees several major administrative units and has led ongoing efforts to strengthen internal controls and financial reporting systems, in addition to implementing the school’s strategic plan. Baylor School serves more than 1,100 students from grades 6-12, with a robust boarding program (237 students), and an 800-acre campus. Dallas's work at Baylor, he says, is about the future. Instead of putting out fires, he has the time to think creatively about the future of the institution.

His illustrious tenure at Baylor was recognized when he was named the 2019 recipient of the NBOA Ken White Distinguished Business Officer Award, the highest honor given by the association for professional achievement. Baylor’s Head of School referred to Dallas as a transformative leader for the school, possessing all of the qualities of a great CFO – a highly qualified and competent financial executive, a thoughtful manager of a very successful and efficient business office, and a servant-leader of incalculable wisdom and vision.

Dallas arrived at Baylor in July of 2000 from Fisk University in Nashville, TN. Before Fisk University, Dallas was the Vice President for Finance of Suomi College (on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan), and for seven years prior to that position, he worked as an accountant and comptroller for Shaw University.

On the national level, he has held leadership roles in the areas of financial aid and enrollment management, and — perhaps most notably for NBOA — served as board chair of the NBOA Board of Directors from 2011 to 2013. His leadership was instrumental in guiding NBOA through challenging times, ultimately leading to the development of a new strategic plan that helped secure NBOA’s place among national associations serving independent schools. Beyond NBOA, Dallas served as board member and chair of the Enrollment Management Association, chair of the NAIS Financial Aid Task Force, and numerous board roles for service organizations in Chattanooga as well as other independent schools and higher educational institutions. In addition to his non-profit experience, Dallas is a member of the Board of Director for Rock Point Bank in Chattanooga TN. In everything he does, Dallas leads by listening, invites everyone into the conversation, checks his ego at the door, and focuses on strategic avenues to advance the work.

Dallas earned his B.S. from North Texas State University, and a M.B.A. from Campbell University. He is the father of three sons: Rasheed, Dallas, and Evan, all Baylor graduates.
