Sam Goldfischer

Sam has been the Director of Business and Finance at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ, since January 1992. Newark Academy is a 6 – 12 coed day school with 675 students.

His accomplishments include Campus Master Planning and several major construction projects, The Elizabeth B. McGraw Arts Center, The William E. & Carol G. Simon Family Field House, The Upper School Academic Center, The Wilf Family Middle School, The Coraci Performance Hall and Kacur (turf) Field, as well as numerous smaller projects.

In addition to the natural responsibilities attendant to his job, Sam never refuses any task; from the sublime of distributing financial aid dollars and mentoring International Baccalaureate students writing their Extended Essay work to the very humorous task of interviewing dog-handlers for the school-owned Border collie. Sam is an integral part of the Academy life as he taught a senior-level elective series in Holocaust/Genocide Studies, and Economics/Personal Finance and is liaison and facilitator to the Student-Managed Endowment Committee.

He is an active member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools (NJAIS), currently serving on the NJAIS Audit Committee and has worked with the Executive Director of NJAIS in planning two conferences at the Academy. He also serves on the NJAIS Accreditation Committee, as well as being an integral part of the planning of two school accreditations and serving on Visting Accreditation Teams.

Sam served on the NBOA Board from 2009-2015 and has served on the Boards of two other academic institutions, his Synagogues, and a neighborhood association. Sam was awarded the Will J. Hancock Unsung Hero Award (2015), the Kenneth A. White, Jr. Distinguished Business Officer Award (2024), and the NJAIS Service Award (2026).

Prior to his work at Newark Academy, he was in the banking industry and the private sector. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Annie, and considers himself blessed to have two wonderful daughters and four amazing grandchildren. Sam enjoys his work in schools and with our students and believes in the old adage, ‘When one teaches, two learn’.
